Rally Roundup
Most of the Attendees were right on time, arriving 3 days before the rally began. But believe me, it was worth coming early. We had the opportunity to check out our furnaces and water hose thawing techniques. It started out to be a cold weekend (29 degrees) and a high in the 50s. But things improved and Sunday was a beautiful day with a high about 73, with very little wind and lots of sunshine.
We had 12 First Timers (individuals) and we hope they enjoyed themselves enough to make them come back for lots more rallies.
Our Hostesses did a wonderful job and even started us out on
Sunday evening with a great rib/chicken dinner catered right here for us for
only $5.00. What a deal and certainly
well worth coming North for. Then at
It is a very good turn-out for our group. 75 folks altogether. Pat has done a wonderful job of selling this rally and a fantastic job of putting the food, entertainment and activities together.
Monday morning was Teresa’s gourmet cinnamon rolls with fresh coffee. The board meeting and first timers meetings followed breakfast and then the Ladies Tea. Banished from any contact with the Ladies, the men retreated to a far corner of the building and had sardines. After lunch, Gary Black flew a Cirrus SR-22 airplane into the airport for the men to wander around and touch and ask questions, which we all did. It is a fantastic airplane and the only one that has a built in parachute in case you are about to crash.
Of course there was happy hour and the opening ceremony included officials from the town, county and the fair board. Everyone here was truly were glad that we were here.
Tuesday morning brought some really great pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee.
We were fortunate to have a member of the ARRL staff as a new member. Tom W3TOM, who is Vice Director of the Atlantic Division, put on a very informative presentation on the activities of ARRL and particularly about the involvement of Amateur Radio and emergency communications.
Immediately following the ARRL presentation, the ladies gathered for a very secretive crafts session. The County, under the spell of Pat’s magic furnished our dinner of bratwurst followed by a cake for desert. The evening’s entertainment came from a very select group of our own talented personnel, honed to a fine edge by director Pat. (You should have seen that ugly pregnant girl in the senior year of high school)
Wednesday morning we started off with biscuits and gravy for
breakfast followed by the General Meeting which was very poorly attended. The current status of the club and some of
the new and exciting changes were discussed including the rationale of the net
frequency change. Effective 1 Oct 2007,
our net will move to 7.230 MHz, with times and net controls remaining the
same. We also installed a new
For those of you who missed this rally, we will give you
another chance to enjoy the wonderful hospitality of
Wednesday evening was our catered meal followed by a concert by the Superior Singers; a group of about 40 local singers who put on an extremely nice show for us. Of course, Pat and her crew had more door prizes for us.
Thursday morning, we tanked up on doughnuts and coffee and prepared for the Bean Bag Baseball World Series. In keeping with the baseball theme, hot dogs were served for lunch. Even the spectators got to eat.
As Thursday came to an end, so did our rally. Closing ceremonies and the awarding of door
prizes brought to a close a really
