Cheap Pump Anti-Viberation Table
12/15/00
The wife was complaining about the noise that the water pumps
made on Footloose and I naturally wanted to correct the problem as cheaply as
possible.
In the original set up, both pumps were mounted on a piece of
plywood that was 6 inches wide and approximately 30 inches long. This was simply
sitting on top of the fresh water tanks which was a great sounding board.
While scrounging around in my junk pile (I got four or five of
those) I found an old ribbed timing belt that was about 3/4 of an inch wide
and it dawned on me that I could use it to make an anti-viberation table for
the pumps. Below is a photo of the resulting project with the pumps sitting
on it.
I cut a scrap piece of 1 x 6 inch plank to a length of 20 inches and then cut
another scrap piece of 1/4 inch hardboard to the same size.
I then cut (4) 3 inch sections out of the timing belt and attached them to the
bottom of the plank with wood screws so that 1 1/2 inch of each extended out
over the side of the plank.
Next, I laid the hardboard beside the plank with the sections of belt extending
over it and drilled both the belt and hardboard so I could install #8 x 3/4"
screws through both from the bottom.
I then flipped the hardboard over the plank, folded the two remaining pieces
of belting underneath on the other side and marked the belt and plank to determine
where to pre-drill holes.
I then drilled the belt and plank holes, then inserted #8 x 3/4" screws
through the hardboard and belt pieces while holding them in folded position.
Below is as side photo with better view of the assembly.
I think this should quieten the pumps down some since I will
be using clear flexible tubing for input & output water lines.
