My Friend Alex

When I first brought him home in a pickup truck I was driving at the time, he was so frightened that I literally had to take the seat out of the truck to find him. Later, he wanted to go everywhere with us in any kind of car but the first thing he would do was pile up on the seat and go to sleep. When the wife started packing the RV, Alex was always the first thing in and the last thing out when we got back home. He would spend the whole afternoon in there waiting to go.

He was a real chow hound and would eat literally anything. This became somewhat of a problem when a Cairn Terrier that was supposed to weigh around 17 pounds topped out at 35 pounds and we had to put him on a diet.

He was literally CRAZY about any kind of toy that had a squeaker in it and would usually destroy a new one in one or two hours. We always gave him the toys in the cellophane wrapper so he could "open" it himself. The yellow one in the above photo was a Xmas 99 present that, amazingly, still worked when he left us.

He loved to play "bad dog" where he would growl and act like he was going to eat your hand off if you attempted to take his toys away from him. This usually frightened most people but he was actually very timid dog and was easily frightened by virtually anything new or loud noises. I have a radial arm saw that literally sent him in orbit every time it was started up.

I have lost a true friend.....
