Following this line of thought, I can never keep up with the recommended pin numbers and wire colors for my 6 Wire connector's and harness so I scanned the information in to a file so I can print it out the next time I need it.
In most cases, only pins 1,2,3 and 5 will be used.
In other words, when you connect in to the Left and Right Rear Turn Signal bulbs on your Motor Home, you are automatically connecting into the brake light system since it typically feeds the same point on both bulbs. This may not always be true but it may save you some unnecessary wiring if so.
On newer cars that have a third center mounted brake light it will not work when the Motor Home brakes are applied with the above scheme but this is a minor shortcoming. Also, if you have an auxilary braking system that depresses your automobile's brake pedal, that will activate it anyway.
What this does mean is that you can get by with a 4 wire connector if necessary but the extra two wires are always useful. In my case, I am using the Stop Lamp (pin 4) as my Brake Buddy controller and indicator. I am also using the auxiliary (pin 6) to provide a 2 Ampere charge line to my toad from the Motor Home.
The chart above indicates recommended wire size as a function of current and length from battery.
