13 Best Mattress for RV Reviews 2023
As promised above, this section will consist of in-depth product reviews of top rated RV mattresses on the market. In doing so, these reviews will give you an idea of what’s out here before you decide what you want.
In other words, they’ll give you some basis on which to start your decision-making process about your next RV mattress.
1. Zinus Memory Foam 6 Inch Green Tea Mattress
Our last product is appropriately another fantastic product from Zinus, the Zinus Memory Foam 6 inch Green Tea Mattress. And to be honest, there isn’t too much different about this mattress than the other Zinus ones we reviewed.
I mean, it’s infused with green tea extract and castor oil to promote freshness like the other green tea bed. By the way, I still love this feature as it truly conveys Zinus is trying everything they can think of to make their bed unique and better than their competitors.
It also has the four different style choices, which lends itself useful to people who have preferences regarding the amount of padding they want in their mattress. And this particular area is where this mattress separates itself from its fellow Zinus products.
See, this mattress only use a small amount of memory foam to appeal more toward the people who like a firmer bed. For example, in the 6-inch model, there’s only one inch of memory foam used.
Now, I would passionately hate this type of bed. I just don’t find the firmer beds comfortable; therefore, this bed wouldn’t make it near my top-tier contenders. But this bed isn’t made for me in mind.
And I can easily tell that everyone who likes a firm bed has seemed to love this mattress. So, if you’re in the market for a firm mattress, I’d recommend taking a good long look at this one from Zinus.
- Four style choices: 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch
- The inclusion of green tea extract for freshness
- The small amount of memory foam makes it an incredible option for people looking for a firm mattress.
- High amount of high-density base foam to offer peak support
- The smell is unpleasant
2. Zinus 8 Inch Spring RV Mattress
The third product from Zinus on this list, the Zinus RV Mattress, represents a worthwhile choice for any RV owner, even though, it doesn’t use memory foam. And honestly, it might be one of the most versatile products on this entire list. See, it offers you a selection of picking between three different style options: 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch.
In my personal opinion, I’d probably go with the 8-inch as it should get me enough padding/height and it’s significantly less expensive than the 10-inch. Regardless, I love that Zinus gives you the option to choose which one fits your particular needs best.
Otherwise, there’s a couple of other reasons to get a little excited about this mattress. For example, it has a green tea ViscoLatex foam layer to ensure your sleeping sessions reach peak comfort levels.
As a customer, that’s all I’m looking for out of my new RV mattress; something that will make my sleeping experience a pleasant one rather the pain-inducing nightmare my first mattress has provided over the past year.
And then you throw in the 10-year warranty, and it becomes obvious Zinus truly cares about their customer’s satisfaction with their product. Honestly, if a mattress doesn’t a have a warranty, I kind of feel like it means the company doesn’t have faith in its product.
But Zinus make sure you don’t feel that way and gives you a way to protect yourself, in case, your mattress gets ruined or damage. And it seems to have fixed the smell issue that haunts their other two products so far.
However, they picked up a new issue as this mattress has garnered a reputation for being a little too firm, which for me is a deal breaker. All in all, a good product just one that doesn’t mesh with my preferences.
- Three different style options with 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch
- Green tea ViscoLatex foam comfort layer
- Has 6-inch supportive coil springs
- 10-year limited warranty
- Issues with the product being too firm
3. LUCID Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress
The LUCID Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress is a steady, unspectacular option worthwhile for any RV owner that’s looking for a simple, high-quality model. It’s the classic “the manufacturer didn’t overthink and just made something that wasn’t going to disappoint you” product.
And with this in mind, it’s no surprise that this mattress is extremely durable. In fact, all the materials used in creating this product have been known to last a very long time. As you might expect, durability is something I value highly; therefore, I love this aspect of this model.
I also love the way LUCID compensated for gel memory foam’s tendency to trap in body heat and made it a non-factor. See, they use moisture controlling ventilated fabric when creating this product, which regulates temperature and ensures you won’t get too hot during the night.
Pretty cool, right? Well, that feature isn’t the only thing this mattress brings to the table. For instance, it has a high-density foam base that makes sure you have enough padding for a good night’s sleep.
And for a mattress with the high-density base foam, you’d think this would be out of my price range; however, this product sits comfortably within what I could afford. I mean, it’s still quite a bit of money, but it’s at least reasonable.
They, even, threw in a 10-year warranty to further entice the customer. Honestly, there isn’t a base that LUCID didn’t cover. However, there is one base where they left something a little lacking.
- Regulates temperature flow with moisture controlling ventilated fabric
- Has a good thickness with its use of foam with high-density
- 10-year warranty
- Some concerns about the breathability of this mattress
4. Signature Sleep RV Mattress
The Signature Sleep RV Mattress is one of the most user-friendly options on this entire list for a simple reason: it offers you a lot of choices. See, with this mattress, you have four different styles you can pick from 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch.
So far, the 12-inch option isn’t something we’ve seen, which makes this particular mattress unique. Honestly, I think the 12-inch would be a little too much padding for me, but I could myself falling in love with it also.
Along the same lines, the inclusion of the breathable soft cover is another attribute I love about this mattress. Now, it isn’t removable, which is kind of disappointing; however, the breathability is second to none.
Overall, both these features make me feel confident about this mattress’s quality because it seems the manufacturer is trying to improve their product by any means necessary. And by doing so, have created a model that matches up well with any of its competitors.
I mean, they even designed a memory foam that ensures your body weight is evenly distributed when you’re sleeping. If that isn’t intuitive, then I don’t know what is, and you have to applaud their effort in creating a product that stands out from the pact.
However, if you do have a little extra money, you should explore the idea of buying this mattress. After all, it checks all the boxes and offers you some additional features that aren’t often seen in RV mattresses.
- Four styles options: 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12 inch
- Soft cover made of breathable fabric
- Unique memory foam that’s designed to distribute your body weight evenly
- Uses CertiPUR-US certified foam
5. Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam RV Mattress
The second product on our list is also from Zinus, the Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory RV Mattress, and it continues the sheer excellence this company seems to embody. And since it’s a memory foam mattress, you know it immediately goes into consideration for me.
It also helps that the memory foam seems to be top of the line quality. I mean, you couldn’t fake write better reviews than this mattress is getting. It’s remarkable how many people seem to love this mattress’s quality.
However, it being a memory foam mattress isn’t the only thing this model has going for it. It comes with a fiber-quilted cover that will offer additional comfort to the already peak levels you’re getting from the memory foam.
I mean, if you’re going to double down on something, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be on comfort? Also, Zinus made sure that this mattress was completely safe by avoiding the use of harmful chemicals, which is always a plus.
This mattress is another that comes in my preferred size of a short queen, which is essential to my living space. You also have the option of either a 10-inch or 8-inch just in case you’d want a little more bed height or a little less.
It’ll be interesting to see if this issue is prevalent in the other Zinus’s products on this list as well. But all in all, it’s still a small issue that won’t keep me from buying this particular mattress. However, I’d prefer the first Zinus because the price was a little lower.
- Top-notch quality foam used in the mattress
- Doesn’t use any harmful chemicals
- Comes with a fiber-quilted cover designed to offer more comfort
- Affordable price
- Available in 10-inch and 8-inch
- Some customers complained about the mattress’s smell
6. DynastyMattress CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress
With our first non-Zinus product, you were probably expecting some drop-off concerning its quality. However, the Dynasty RV Mattress CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress does an incredible stacking up against its competition.
For example, the mattress is made out of a comfortable gel material that will make sure your sleep sessions are full of comfort. I mean, you’ll never have to worry about not getting a good night sleep ever again with a high-quality product like this mattress.
It also helps that the 10-inch height is separated into four layers, which keeps the mattress in pristine condition. Therefore, you’ll never have to worry about a lump or the padding leveling off; instead, you can sleep comfortably knowing this four-layer construction will keep your mattress nice and strong for years to come.
Additionally, I love that the memory foam is infused with cooler gel beads. See, these cooler gel beads will help keep the memory foam from stockpiling your body heat and making you sweat when your sleeping.
As a person who doesn’t move much in their sleep, memory foam often causes me to sweat a lot during the night. But these gel beads will help cool down the temperature and keep my sleeping sessions from becoming a sweaty nightmare.
Aside from being durable and making my sleeping sessions more comfortable, I also like the washable cover this product comes with as it protects you from any accidents or cleaning issues you could have on the mattress. As a person who spills consistently, this feature gets me a little protection against my own clumsiness.
- Four layer construction
- Infused gel beads
- Washable cover
- 20-year limited warranty
7. Zinus Memory Foam 5 Inch Mattress
It looks like we’ve reached another Zinus product on our list, the Zinus Memory Foam 5 Inch Mattress. With this particular mattress, it’s made specifically for the small members of your RV family. In other words, we’re dealing with the twin and narrow twin sizes only.
Even in these smaller sizes, I love how Zinus still did their best to create a high-quality bed that a full grown adult could be jealous of; for example, the five inches of high-quality foam will ensure whoever sleeps on this bed will have a sublime experience.
And it will offer them a complete level of support that another bed can’t provide them due to this level of high-quality foam. And just like the larger size beds from Zinus we’ve reviewed, they used natural oils and substances that replace some of the traditional petroleum to give the mattress a sense of freshness.
In this case, they’ve chosen natural seed oil to achieve this effect and given the product reviews I think this decision was an inspired one. I also like the number of choices the company provides the customer.
I mean, you have your pick between three different colors and two different sizes to find the right combination for your next RV mattress. In my opinion, that’s pretty fantastic. And the best part, besides the choices, is all this comes at a very affordable cost.
- Comes in three different colors: khaki, blue, and pink
- Comes in two different sizes: narrow twin and twin
- Use of natural seed oil to keep the mattress fresh
- Five inches of high-quality foam
- Some customers had issues with the lack of thickness
8. Live & Sleep Resort Classic Memory Foam RV Mattress
Our first of two products form Live & Sleep, the Live & Sleep Resort Classic Memory Foam RV Mattress, beings to show you why this company is on this list twice. First off, the manufacturer used breathable materials to ensure you a relaxed and comfortable environment for sleeping.
Honestly, this sense of calmness created by these materials is almost a necessity for me in any RV mattress I buy. Often, I have trouble sleeping, so, anything that’ll help me in that area is a huge plus.
Furthermore, the memory foam has shown to neutralize many customers back and neck pain. And although I don’t suffer from these conditions, it’s nice to have some protection against them, in case, I do have some issues with them in the future. After all, I’m only getting older.
Besides being effective at dealing with our aches and pains, this mattress has several other features I love. For instance, the breathable materials used also make this mattress completely hypoallergenic and antibacterial.
In other words, it’s incredibly safe for any member of the family to use. And if you do find yourself having to clean it, it has a removable and washable cover that offers ultimate convenience in this area.
Given my dogs’ proclivity for making a mess of every piece of furniture in my life, this feature could a be essential to ensuring this mattress lasts a very long time. In the end, I don’t want to be looking for another mattress again in a couple of months.
In fact, I would probably take this out of consideration due to this issue. However, if you like a firmer bed, I’d recommend giving this mattress a hard look.
- Breathable materials used
- Minimizes or prevents pain while also naturally molding to the shape of your body
- Hypoallergenic and antibacterial
- Free of any harsh chemicals
- Removable and washable cover
- Some customers have issues with it being too firm
9. Zinus Gel-Infused Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress
At one point, I was considering putting 15 different Zinus mattress onto this list. I mean, they’re that good and the Zinus Gel-Infused Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is no exception to this company’s excellence.
However, this mattress is easily my least favorite Zinus product so far, but this doesn’t mean there aren’t some worthwhile positive aspects to discuss.
For example, the mattress is infused with green tea extract and castor that work together to ward off bacteria. They’re also supposed to help get rid of any unattractive smells, but we’ll get more into that later on in the review.
Besides the use of natural substances, Zinus also offers four different style options that you can choose from and pick the one that fits your ideal circumstances. Honestly, I can’t praise Zinus enough for always given their customer a choice.
It’s little aspects like this one that makes them such a great company. And they actually seem like they strive to make their products affordable for the average consumer such as myself, which is precisely what they did with mattress.
But they fail in two critical areas with this particular product. As mentioned before, the green tea extract and castor oil are supposed to help ward off odors. Well, this feature isn’t something that has been overly effective.
In fact, numerous customer reviews cite an overwhelming smell being the only reason they find the product to be unacceptable. And the smell wasn’t the only issue mentioned in these reviews, as some customers complained about the mattress being too firm.
Now, these two issues aren’t close to being deal breakers, however, I’d much rather go with another Zinus mattress on this list even though this one is a little less expensive than the others.
- Infused the mattress with both green tea extract and castor oil to ward off bacteria
- Memory foam that conforms to your body shape
- Four style options: 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch
- Unpleasant odor
- Too firm for some customers
10. Premier Sleep Products Cool Sleep Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress
This USA based company, Premier Sleep Products, has made an RV mattress, the Premier Sleep Products Cool Sleep Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress, that any RV owner would be proud to own.
The best feature this mattress has is the cooling gel memory foam. This foam makes sure you don’t get too sweaty when you sleep. As someone who doesn’t move a lot during my sleeping sessions, this aspect is a significant plus for me.
In fact, with this cooling gel memory foam, this mattress would move up to the top of my list immediately. It also helps that the memory foam is explicitly designed to reduce motion transfer.
See, I’m a very light sleeper, so, anything that can keep my better half from waking me up in the middle of the night during her impromptu bathroom visits is monumental for me. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been woken up from a scenario like this and not been able to fall back asleep.
Therefore, I greatly appreciate Signature Sleep’s effort to alleviate this particular issue. Then you add in the 10-year warranty plus the resistant to allergens, and you have a fantastic product that warrants my consideration.
But regardless of the incredible features, this product still has two glaring faults that make it a no-buy for me. See, some customers have had issues with the firmness of the mattress. And as a person who doesn’t enjoy sleeping on a hard surface, this aspect is a significant issue.
Also, it doesn’t help that it’s expensive and well outside my price range. With these two issues, you can see why I can’t buy this particular mattress. However, if you like firm mattresses and don’t mind spending a couple of extra bucks, this could be an excellent purchase for you.
- USA made
- Cooling gel memory foam that makes sure your sleep sessions don’t get too hot.
- Reduces motion transfer
- 10-year warranty
- Resistant to allergens
- Some customers had issues with the firmness
11. Dreamfoam Bedding Doze Eurotop Mattress
The Dreamfoam Bedding Doze Eurotop Mattress isn’t a unique RV mattress, but it makes up for it with an attention to offering acceptable performance at a discount price. In other words, it does its job and has a rate that won’t make a significant dent in your bank account.
Now, this might not sound appealing for all of you; however, for you bargain buyers, this mattress might be the perfect option. I mean, it has all the essential features you’d expect from an RV mattress from reading the other product reviews.
For instance, it comes in three different style options: 7-inch, 9-inch, and 11-inch. It’s a little odd Dreamfoam that opted for odd-numbered measurements instead of even numbers like the rest; however, it doesn’t matter as it only tells the height of the mattress.
I’d personally pick the 9-inch model as it’s a little bigger than I wanted (8-inch), but honestly, it wouldn’t hurt to have a little extra padding and height. And given the product reviews this mattress has, it’s fair to say the padding is ready to fulfill your sleeping needs.
Likewise, the mattress also has three different thickness levels, which will offer you peak comfort and support during your nightly sleeping session. With this in mind, it’s hard not to be impressed with the affordable solid product Dreamform has made.
It, even, has a 10-year warranty that will make sure you’re protected against whatever accident or damaging situation awaits your brand new RV mattress. However, just like with all products, it’s not all positive.
- Affordable price
- Three different style options: 7-inch, 9-inch, and 11-inch
- Three different thickness levels for peak comfort and support
- 10-year warranty
- Made in the USA
- Not firm enough for some customers
12. Live & Sleep Ultra RV Mattress
Our second product from Live & Sleep, the Live & Sleep Ultra RV Mattress, would be a top end choice for any RV owner looking for complete support out of their mattress. Honestly, if you end buying this product, I very strongly doubt you’ll have anything bad to say about it.
In fact, I imagine you be singing the praises of the various features and benefits it provides you. For example, the removable cover makes this mattress both extremely easy to clean and low-maintenance.
After all, all you have to do is unzip the cover and throw it in the wash when it gets dirty. Besides the removable cover, it’s also hypoallergenic, which means its very unlikely you’ll have an allergic reaction to the material used on this mattress.
Furthermore, I love the inclusion of the 1.5 inches of gel-infused Visco memory foam, as it will make sure the bed doesn’t become too hot during those summer nights. Likewise, the top layer of premium airflow foam will ensure the mattress stays breathable, which is always a huge plus.
And finally, the 8.5 inches of high-density base foam will make sure your hips, spine, and whatever other body parts get support. Overall, this product is everything I could ever want in an RV mattress.
They, even, threw in a 20-year warranty to ensure their customers would have all the protection they needed. I mean, what doesn’t this mattress have that I, as a customer, could realistically want?
- Removable cover
- 8.5 inches of high-density base foam to offer support to your hips, spine, and shoulders
- A layer of about 1.5 inches of gel-infused Visco memory foam in the middle to make it more breathable
- Top layer of 2.5 inches of premium airflow memory foam
13. Best Price Mattress Memory Foam Mattress
There isn’t any special about The Best Price Mattress Memory Foam Mattress. Honestly, it’s about as run of the mill as an RV mattress can get. Now, you’re probably wondering, if it’s so run of the mill, why it would make this list then?
Well, it’s very simple: it’s a bargain. And I know for you bargain buyers, this product review section has been quite unkind to you. After all, most of the mattresses on this list are pretty expensive and out of the price range for people like you and me.
However, this one is right up our wheelhouse and provides the person sleeping on it with a pretty nice place to take a nice long nap. And even though it’s very run of mill product, it does have some of the features the other mattress have on this list.
For instance, the memory foam does isolate the motion transfer between partners. In other words, if you’re partner gets up, the mattress will make sure you don’t feel it on your side of the bed.
As mentioned before, this feature is a must for me because I’m a very light sleeper and to have it included at this low of a price is a godsend. This mattress also has a 5-year warranty in the case it gets damaged or ruined for whatever reason.
With my proclivity for causing disastrous situations, I could see how this warranty to come in handy. All in all, Best Price Mattress did a great job cultivating a solid, yet unspectacular mattress that I must consider buying because it will do its job without creating any nonsense or complications.
- Isolates motion transfer between partners
- 5-year warranty
- Removable cover
- The smell is unpleasant
Zinus Deluxe Short Queen Memory Foam For RV Mattress (Outdated)
Our first product, the Zinus Deluxe Short Queen Memory Foam For RV Mattress, comes from a manufacturer that you’ll see on this list multiple times, Zinus. Given this information, you shouldn’t be surprised that I love this mattress for many different reasons.
For instance, the first thing that stands out about this Zinus product is it’s a memory foam mattress, which is something I find to be a necessity in any mattress I buy. I just love how the mattress molds to the shape of your body.
And given the numerous product reviews, I can confirm this memory foam works. In fact, there’s almost an overwhelming amount of support for this particular mattress. I also like that it comes in the size of a short queen, which is perfect for my RV.
Honestly, I think it’d be an incredible fit. Plus, with its affordable price, I wouldn’t have any problems fitting it into my budget either, which is just the best news ever. I mean, high-quality mattresses always seem out of my price range, but for once, I could afford a nice short queen sized bed for my RV trips.
Not only could I afford it, but this mattress has an additionally high-density foam to help keep this product in good shape for a long time. Then, you throw in the 10-year limited warranty, and I was starting to think this mattress was too good to be true.
After all, who likes the smell of plastic? I know, I sure don’t, but at this price, I could get over it very quickly.
- 10-year limited warranty
- Offers peak comfort
- Bio-foam memory foam maintains freshness
- Affordable price
- High-density foam base layer to add a sense of stability and durability
- Some customers complained about its plastic odor
Zinus Deluxe Pillow Top RV Mattress (Outdated)
Zinus lands back on our list with another RV mattress, the Zinus Deluxe Pillow Top RV Mattress, that does everything you hope it could, and the manufacturer promises it can do. In fact, there isn’t much about this product that any RV owner would complain about given its high-quality performance.
And this high-quality performance comes from a bunch of features it has that I adore. For example, it has ICoil pocketed springs that offer premium support, and since this mattress is not a memory foam model, you need a certain level of support to come from somewhere.
Now, I’m not a massive fan of non-memory foam RV mattresses, but this particular innerspring mattress makes up for it with these high-quality springs. I mean, there wasn’t one customer review that said something along the lines of I wish I got a memory foam one instead.
With this mind, I’d at least have to consider this product. And the springs aren’t the only quality that warrants this mattress for consideration. The 10-year warranty is also a nice touch that makes passing up on this a hard thing to do.
Along the same lines, Zinus made sure to include natural green tea extract into the mattress making process. This inclusion makes sure that this product will always have a sense of freshness.
Oh, I didn’t even mention that you can also choose from three different styles and pick the option, which fits your preference. Again, I’d opt for the 8-inch rather than the 6-inch or 10-inch due to personal RV fit.
- 10-year warranty
- ICoil pocketed springs offer premium support
- Comes in three different style options
- Pressure relieving comfort foam provides firm, customized support
- Uses natural green tea extract to maintain freshness
What to Look for When Buying an RV Mattress
Within this section, we’ll examine things that you’ll find end up being crucial factors in your decision. And once you carefully inspect these things, you’ll see that the outline of your perfect RV mattress will start to take shape in your mind.
In the RV mattress world, beds come in many different types and shapes, but there are five main categories that all the beds can be sort into generally: memory foam mattresses, innerspring mattresses, air mattresses, latex foam mattresses, and polyurethane foam mattresses.
Memory Foam Mattresses
My personal favorite of the bunch, the memory foam mattresses, are made with comfort in mind. See, these memory foam beds can adjust according to your body and help alleviate issues such as back or neck pain.
Furthermore, the memory foam will also regulate your body temperature to the demands of the environment your in; however, if you don’t move a lot when your sleeping this aspect can cause your body heat to pile up on the foam and make you feel hot.
Due to this, if you opt for a memory foam mattress and you don’t move in your sleep, it’s essential you get one with cooler memory foam gel. The cooler memory foam gel will make sure your body heat is dispensed somewhere else rather than storing up and make your sleeping sessions a sweaty nightmare.
Our second type, the innerspring mattresses, are a little bit less technologically advance as the memory foam products. In the simplest terms, an innerspring mattress is a bed with entrenched coils within the padding, which are usually pretty thick and heavy.
They also have a habit of collecting condensation that can be quite annoying for the person sleeping on the mattress. In the end, you’d be better off choosing another type unless you like the old-school feel of these models.
Although incredibly convenient, air mattresses aren’t known to be high-quality. I mean, I’m pretty sure we’ve all slept on an air mattress at some point and often that wasn’t an enjoyable experience.
But regardless, it’s essential we mention them because they do offer you storage versatility with their ability to deflate. With this in mind, if you’re looking for something that won’t take up much room, an air mattress might be the choice for you.
Polyurethane Foam Mattress
There isn’t much advantage to getting a polyurethane foam mattress as it’s easily the lowest quality of the five types. In other words, the bed you’re trying to replace is probably one of these models.
The problem with this type of mattress is it’s made from the same stuff you’d find inside couch cushions. And honestly, does it sound appealing or comfortable to have a whole mattress made with that stuff? I don’t think so, and I doubt you do either.
It does have one advantage though: the polyurethane foam does have flame retardant additives. Although all mattresses these days are required to have flame retardant properties, so, I guess it’s more of a necessity than an advantage.
In the end, there’s no reason to buy one of these mattresses unless you’re desperate and have a low budget for a bed.
Latex Foam Mattresses
And our last type, the latex foam mattresses, are made from natural and organic materials. However, while this aspect is nice and all, the product outcome concerning the comfort these beds provide is a little lacking.
See, the latex foam doesn’t mold to your body like memory foam, which then causes soreness. Honestly, the soreness issue makes this type among my least favorites. I just can’t imagine buying one of these types, especially, if I’m going to be driving an RV around all day long.
I can’t stress enough how essential it’s to measure your previous mattress before ordering your new one. In doing so, you’re ensuring you don’t make the mistake of buying a mattress that’s either too big or small.
After all, the sizing for RV mattress can be quite complicated as there are just so many different types and shapes. But regardless, the size you’re going to end up needed will most likely be one of the following RV mattress sizes:
- Short Queen Mattress: 60″ x 75″
- Short Queen Mattress: 60″ x 74″
- RV Queen Mattress: 60″ x 80″
- Olympic Queen Mattress: 66″ x 80″
- Three Quarter Size Mattress: 48″ x 75″
- RV Full Mattress: 53″ x 75″
- RV Bunk Mattress: 28″ x 75″
- RV Bunk Mattress: 30″ x 75″
- RV Bunk Mattress: 30″ x 80″
- RV Bunk Mattress: 34″ x 75″
- RV Bunk Mattress: 35″ x 79″
- RV King Mattress: 72″ x 75″
- RV King Mattress: 72″ x 80″
- Cal King Mattress: 72″ x 84″
- Eastern King Mattress: 76″ x 80
- RV Twin Mattress: 38″ x 75″
- RV Twin Mattress: 38″ x 80
- RV Bunk Mattress: 42″ x 80″
I know, the amount of size options seems overwhelming, which is why measuring your previous terrible mattress is a must. I mean, it finally gets the chance to be useful instead of being a pain-causing nightmare that makes you ache on trips where you’re supposed to be enjoying yourself.
And in the end, once you know the size, the options will start to decrease organically. Then, as they start declining, you’ll begin to separate the real contenders from the pack and be ready for the final decision-making process.
While researching any consumer product, there’s one thing you must always do: read customer reviews. Honestly, there’s no better source than the people that have previously bought the product.
And once you sort through some of the fake reviews, a narrative should start to formulate. After it begins to reveal itself, you should have a good idea about whether or not a product is worth your time.
Often, people will skip reading the customer reviews and trust the product description. I can’t stress enough how detrimental this trust could be to your overall buying experience. I mean, most of the time the manufacturer will lie about a claim to ensure you end up buying the product.
And this deception is no different with RV manufacturers. So again, I implore you; please read the customer reviews before purchasing your mattress or trust me and pick one from our product review section that fits your needs best.
Since you don’t want to be doing this whole process again for a very long time, make sure you get an RV mattress with a solid warranty. This aspect will protect you against any accident or future issue you may have with the mattress.
Now, most of these warranties are in the range of five to ten years, which is a pretty solid range for an RV mattress. However, some come with warranties that last from twenty to twenty-five years.
Therefore, if you can find the best RV mattress with a twenty to twenty-five-year warranty for a relatively inexpensive price, you must put it into your Amazon cart immediately. In other words, this scenario is the dream and you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Within the FAQ section, we’ll try to answer any remaining questions you might have about these products. Hopefully, by doing so, we’ll make you more comfortable with your decision and provide will all the information you need to make an informed choice regarding your next RV mattress.
What is an RV Mattress?
As you might expect, an RV mattress is made exclusive for camper, RV, or other motorhome use. Now, you’re probably asking what this means?
Well, a regular mattress you’d fit inside your home isn’t going to meet the necessary needs of your RV. See, an RV mattress is explicitly designed in many different areas such as size, shape, thickness, and other characteristics to fit the unique environment an RV provides.
For example, an RV mattress will often have a corner or two cut out to account for the sharp turns and condense space an RV’s inside offers. Therefore, you must know the exact parameters of the bed space you’re looking for a new RV mattress to fill.
In other words, buying an RV mattress will be a little bit more complicated than buying a regular mattress. After all, you most likely have minimal spacing for your new bed and not a lot of wiggle room, so, you must get the measurements exactly right.
If you don’t, you could be wasting a lot of money because RV mattresses aren’t cheap. In fact, they’re downright expensive, especially, once you take quality into account. Honestly, there aren’t a lot of bargain buys in the RV mattress marketplace.
See, RV mattress manufacturers know the importance of getting a good night sleep on the road. After all, there’s nothing worse or more dangerous than driving after a night of tossing and turning; it can quickly ruin your whole trip.
In the end, the key is finding a high-quality mattress that fit the parameters of your RV perfectly. Once you decide on those two aspects, finding the right RV mattress won’t be much of an issue, and you should be well on your way to making your RV feel like a secondary home.
What are Types of RV Mattresses?
As discussed above, there are five different types of RV mattresses: memory foam mattresses, innerspring mattresses, air mattresses, latex foam mattresses, and polyurethane foam mattresses.
I’ll briefly go over each type once again just to ensure you understand exactly what’s the right one for your needs.
- Memory Foam Mattresses
If you’re looking for comfort and high-quality, this type will be the best bet for you. And as you saw in our product review section, most of RV mattresses are of this particular type. However, given their performance, the price tends to run little high and are often borderline expensive.
So, if you’re bargain buying, you might want to explore the other four types before spending over your budget on a memory foam mattress. After all, the other four types do have certain advantages to them that are truly beneficial.
- Innerspring Mattress
As the old-school option, the innerspring mattress is still one of the most sought-after RV mattress types for a simple reason: familiarity. It seems some people feel more comfortable buying a conventional wired embedded innerspring mattress than a more technologically advanced product like a memory foam mattress.
Also, it helps that they’re much less expensive and there are several high-quality options available on the market.
- Latex Foam Mattress
Even though they’re made with organic and natural materials, latex foam mattresses often don’t offer enough support to the person sleeping on them. This lack of support leads to general soreness, which might be a bad thing for an RV owner who’s sitting down all day driving an RV.
Therefore, I wouldn’t buy a mattress of this particular type. It just doesn’t seem like a good fit for me personally.
Air MattressI’d only consider getting an air mattress if I had a smaller camper or motorhome with limited space. If this describes your situation, an air mattress could be a fantastic option for you with its easy storage capabilities.
- Polyurethane Foam Mattress
This mattress type is probably the one you’re trying to replace. See, these models are incredibly cheap; therefore, RV manufacturers use them as the initial beds to keep the cost down for them. If you need a quick/temporary replacement, these models could help you out for a spell.
Are RV mattress sizes the same as regular mattresses?
No, foam RV mattresses are not the same size as regular residential mattresses. However, they have a similar naming convention.
For example, both mattress types can have the names “California king,” “queen,” “king,” “twin XL,” and “twin.” Like all RV items, motorhome mattresses are slightly smaller than their residential counterparts.
For example, a regular twin XL mattress for side sleepers might be 80 inches long, 38 inches wide, and 11 inches thick. On the other hand, a twin XL bed for motorhomes might only be 78 inches long, 35 inches wide, and 6 inches thick.
However, some RV mattress brands have products of similar sizes to regular mattresses. Hence, RV owners must check their motorhome’s bed frame dimensions to determine size appropriateness.
Can you use a regular mattress in an RV?
Yes, it is possible to use a standard residential mattress for motorhomes, travel trailers, campers, fifth wheels, and other RVs. However, you must ensure the product fits the RV’s bed frame. Otherwise, you have no choice but to buy a camper mattress specific to your trailer bunk.
Camper owners must appreciate that RVs do not have spacious living areas, unlike ordinary houses. Hence, almost everything you see in a motorhome is a slightly smaller version of residential objects.
Measure your RV bed frame’s dimensions, such as length and width. The measurements will help you determine whether a regular mattress will be a suitable replacement for a full RV mattress, a Queen size, or a single.
Another measurement you must ascertain is the vertical clearance from the RV’s ceiling to the mattress’s top surface. You don’t want to hit your head on the ceiling when you wake up and get out of bed.
Unfortunately, most residential mattresses are about a foot thick. On the other hand, travel trailer mattresses are about half a standard mattress’s thickness.
How can you prevent mold under an RV mattress?
Mold and similar microorganisms need moist, warm, humid, and dark environments to thrive, in addition to oxygen, water, and food. Hence, preventing mold growth and proliferation under a lightweight mattress for RV requires eliminating at least two of the mold’s survival prerequisites.
First, you can buy a dehumidifier to draw out excess moisture from the motorhome cabin and make the ambient air dry. Doing this will make the environment inhospitable to mold. You can also use desiccant packs and turn on your electric fan to reduce indoor humidity levels.
Second, opening the RV doors and windows will improve ventilation in the motorhome cabin. This action also introduces sunlight into the room, inhibiting mold growth.
Third, check your RV bed platform’s underside for ventilation. Most motorhome beds have little to no space between the RV floor and the sleeping platform’s bottom section, preventing adequate airflow.
If this is your situation, some Reddit users recommend raising the mattress from the bed when not in use. You can also place a special mesh padding with grooves underneath the mattress to improve airflow.
What RV mattress is the most comfortable?
The whole notion of the most comfortable RV mattress is relative. You might consider an RV mattress perfect for your needs, but it might be a different matter for another person.
For example, an RV mattress with an 8/10 firmness rating might be perfect for heavy person, but not for people weighing less than 230 pounds.
Lighter-weight sleepers will find products with firmness ratings of 3/10 to 5/10 more comfortable. On the other hand, heavy individuals will sink into these mattresses, making them feel like they are drowning.
Medical conditions can also impact a person’s sleeping comfort. People with scoliosis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and other skeletal conditions require specially designed mattresses to maintain spinal alignment and relieve pressure off bony prominences.
Muscle aches and tenderness will also benefit from egg crate-like mattresses for back pain. A 6/10 mattress is also more suitable for these people.
Like pain and other subjective experiences, comfort is relative. Hence, you might want to try the sleeping fabric to determine its comfort level before buying.
What is the RV Mattress Made of?
Well, it depends on the one you end up purchasing. However, most mattresses are made from a material or a combination of them from the following list:
- Polyurethane foams
- Memory foam
- Natural fibers
As you can see, some of the categories names we use to classify these mattresses are from the material used to create them. And as mentioned above, memory foam is usually the highest quality material you’ll find among this bunch.
Ironically, memory foam is the awful polyurethane foam material with added chemicals that make it have its signature adapting ability. Of course, even though this memory foam is usually top of the line, some people don’t particularly enjoy it.
Obviously, I’m not one of these people. And in my experience, it’s always a good bet to go with the memory foam mattress. They just provide a more comfortable sleeping experience than the other beds do, even if it’s a little higher priced.
But in some instances, the innerspring material can be just as capable and ready to fulfill all your RV mattress needs. It will also come at a much lower price. Therefore, sometimes older is better when it comes to RV mattresses.
Why do you Need an RV Mattress?
There’s a relatively simple reason why you need an RV mattress: a regular one won’t fit your RV. In fact, given the lack of space, you’ll need a mattress that’s smaller than what’d you typically see in a bedroom.
Also, specific RV bed frames will have parts of edges cut off to help make the bed a better fit into the RV. If you have a bed frame like the one I’m speaking about, you’ll obviously need an RV mattress with that part cut as well.
This aspect also gives you more room to maneuver furniture and other things around your RV. After all, the main problem with RVing is usually a lack of space. With this feature, you can at least compensate for that a bit and add in another thing to make your RV feel like home.
And to put it simply, regular mattresses aren’t made in that way. So, as you can see, there’s just no reason you shouldn’t get one. Now, if you already have an RV mattress and it’s the one that came with the RV, there’s another reason why you need to get a new RV mattress.
First off, the quality of the initial one is most likely awful. See, as mentioned above, RV manufacturers aren’t going to prioritize quality when installing a mattress in an RV. Instead, they’re going to worry about how much it costs and its weight.
In other words, they’ll want to save as much money and time as humanly possible when getting the RV ready. Therefore, the mattress isn’t going to be high on their priority list, and it will be the cheapest, easiest to install model they can find.
RV Queen Mattress vs Regular Queen Mattress: What’s the difference?
The RV queen mattress or also called the short queen mattress is different from a regular queen in only one significant way. The RV queen mattress is about five or six inches short than a regular one. Why you might ask?
Well, it’s for your benefit because it allows you to optimize your limited space more efficiently. Whether it means adding another piece of furniture or just leaving the area empty to make the room more breathable: the RV queen allows you do either one while giving you all the luxuries a regular queen bed would.
Honestly, those extra five inches could go along way in making sure your RV doesn’t get cramped or stuffy. It’s crazy how such a little amount of space can change the outlook of your trip.
In the end, it’s all about whether or not you’re going to value that extra five inches or so; if you think you will opt for getting a short queen mattress. If not, why don’t you upgrade to an RV king mattress and splurge a little for that extra bed space?
What are Good RV Mattress Brands?
Every mattress company in our product review section is considered high-quality by us. So, we thought it’d be informative to give a little background on some of these companies, which will help you further familiarize yourselves with their goals and products.
The company that shows up on our list the most, Zinus, has been making high-quality mattress since 2004. And its manufacturing process is built on four keywords: evolution, efficiency, ethos, and expertize. All four of which help create some of the high quality RV mattresses in the entire world.
- LUCID Mattress
For the last eight years, LUCID Mattress has been cultivating a reputation as a top-level RV mattress manufacturer. And they’ve done this behind one belief: “that you deserve to sleep on a mattress that’s made for you.”
- Live & Sleep
As a relatively new company, Live & Sleep has slowly gained the trust of its customers by providing them with high-quality mattresses at an affordable cost. In fact, their whole goal is to develop the “best affordable memory foam mattresses on the market.”
In being a family-owned company, Dreamfoam prides itself on their ability to offer both incredible customer service and mattresses. Honestly, all they want to do is “build the right mattress for you the first time.”
- Signature Sleep Mattress
After being in the sleep industry for fifty years, it’s no wonder Signature Sleep Mattress ended up on our list. It seems their one goal is to deliver “excellent quality mattresses are durable and affordable” something they seemed very successful in doing.
- Best Price Mattress
At Best Price Mattress, they only have one goal in mind “to make a high-quality product that produces great sleep for many years.” And honestly, that’s all you can ask for in a mattress manufacturer.
How to Choose the Right Size?
Unfortunately, it’s rare to come across a RV mattress sizes chart. This lack of convenience seems to stem from these mattresses coming in all shapes and sizes. Of course, you already know this given the previous FAQ sections.
With this in mind, you’re probably asking yourself, “if there’s no sizing chart, how am I supposed to tell which mattress to get” Well, it’s pretty simple actually: measure the mattress you’re trying to replace before going onto Amazon or out shopping.
In doing so, you’re making sure you don’t get a mattress that’s either too small or too large. Also, it’s essential that you understand RV mattresses can come in some pretty unique sizes such as three-quarter queen (48 by 75 inches) and the previously mentioned short queen (60 by 75 inches).
Once you measure and get the correct dimensions, the whole process should quickly become a breeze. Therefore, please, take the two minutes it takes to measure your terrible bed, so, that you can move onto an incredible one.
Where to Buy it?
Well, the obvious answer to this question is where all our links from our product review section go: Amazon. But outside of Amazon, there are a few other sites worth checking just in case a deal or sale is happening.
For instance, CampingWorld.com is an incredible site for all your camping needs, and it’s no different for RV mattresses. It has a wide selection and is sometimes known to have sales that even go below Amazon’s price.
Additionally, Overstock.com is another site that you should check out before you chose anything off Amazon. Just like CampingWorld, it has a varied selection that has all the major RV mattress competitors products.
However, there is one place you should never buy from: the manufacturer’s site. Often, these sites will have a significant price increase from what they’’re listed for on other sites such as Amazon or even CampingWorld.
With this in mind, stick to these three sites, and you should find a price that fits your fancy. And if for some reason, you don’t feel comfortable buying online, you could always try your local Walmart or furniture store.
Both of these places might not have a wide selection, but they should have at least one decent or good option available for purchase. But in the end, I’d recommend sticking to buying online. It’s just easier that way and more convenient for all involved.
How to Make RV Mattress More Comfortable?
Although we hope the next RV mattress you buy will bring you peak comfort, there are some other things you can do to ensure that your sleeping sessions are incredibly relaxing and pleasant.
- Foam Pads
Due to the lack of box spring and the plywood base RV mattresses usually are placed on, sleeping in an RV can be quite uncomfortable. Therefore, you’ll need something that will give yourself some extra padding to put some distance between you and the rock-solid plywood base. The solution is something called a foam pad.
These foam pads can be inserted right under your mattress and will act as a protective layer between you and plywood. If you’re wondering where you can purchase these lifesavers, you your local hardware or retail store should have these anti-frugal mats.
- Mattress Toppers
Even though they can be quite expensive, mattress toppers are the perfect way to ensure you nightly sleeping session becomes a sublime experience. All you have to do is slip it onto your mattress, and you’ll have a foam filled protective layer between you and that rough plywood.
However, there’s one small issue: it’s hard to find the top-rated RV mattress topper that will fit the funky sizes of an RV mattress. But there’s a way around this problem; you can simply get a larger topper than you need and cut off the extra inches you don’t need.
And the last thing you can do is an elementary concept: get new bedding. Often, the bedding that comes with these mattresses are uncomfortable and a drag to sleep under at night.
With is in mind, go out and pick up some rather inexpensive high-quality bedding for your RV. It will make sure your sleep session’s a lot more enjoyable and comfortable.
Now, that you can consider yourselves RV mattress experts, it’s time for you to pick the best RV mattress for your particular needs and put it into your Amazon cart. Even if it’s a little more expensive than you’d like, you should get that mattress immediately.
I mean, you’d be surprised how much difference a quality RV mattress can have on your life. Once you find the right one, you’ll never wake up with a stiff back or neck. Plus, you’ll never wake up regretting the decision to take an RV trip.
Lastly, always remember to read the customer reviews of the bed before purchasing. By doing so, you’re ensuring you won’t get tricked into buying a low-quality mattress. After all, I don’t want your RVing experience to be ruined because you bought a less than stellar mattress!
